Demonetisation impacts sales at Hyderabad's popular biryani restaurants

In an 'X' post, TMC said the government has "ek hi naara, line mein rahe desh bechara," pointing to past governmental measures including demonetisation, the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, the Special Identification Registration (SIR), and now the LPG shortage. The party described demonetisation as a "Tughlaqi farman" that forced ordinary citizens to wait in serpentine queues outside banks and ATMs for days to access their own money. The post also highlighted the 2020 COVID-19 oxygen crisis, when families stood in long lines outside hospitals and suppliers as the public health system collapsed.

Restaurant owners say they are unable to obtain commercial gas cylinders, resulting in some establishments temporarily shut down, and some food outlets selling tea, poha, and kachori are trying to keep their businesses running by using wood and coal for cooking.

The disruption is also being felt by common citizens, with long queues reported at several gas agencies across the city for domestic LPG cylinders.

Gas shortage is hitting restaurants hard in Hyderabad. A restaurant owner said that the fuel shortage is affecting their business big time, and with wood prices allegedly skyrocketing, especially in Ramdhan, it is challenging.

"The PM's rhetoric in Kerala is far from the reality that the country is facing. The war has reached every kitchen in this country. Restaurants are closing due to a shortage. This is affecting every sector. The assurance of the govt was that there was ample stock. Today, there is an actual crisis because of the negligence of this govt. One crore Indians are in Gulf countries, and we are concerned about their safety and livelihood. War has created hardship for them. We want the government to take proactive measures," he told ANI.

The ongoing shortage of commercial LPG cylinders affecting hotels and restaurants across the country may continue for another month, the Coimbatore District Hoteliers' Association (CDHA) warned on Tuesday, urging the government to take immediate steps to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply to the hospitality sector.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) spokesperson TKS Elangovan criticised the Centre over the shortage of commercial LPG cylinders affecting hotels and restaurants across the country, saying the Centre must take immediate action to address the issue and protect the country's energy interests amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje urged people not to panic over reports of commercial LPG shortages affecting hotels and restaurants, saying the Central government is actively working to address the issue amid global supply disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

A commercial LPG shortage is affecting hotels and restaurants nationwide, with many forced to suspend operations. The government has formed a three-member committee to address grievances and prioritise domestic LPG supply.

In his letter, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP highlighted concerns raised by associations representing the restaurant and hospitality sector regarding the continuity of commercial LPG supply to restaurants, hotels, and other food service establishments.
