JD (U) for assessment of demonetisation before action against 'benami' properties

New Delhi [India], Nov. 14 (ANI): A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the next action of his government would be against 'benami' properties, the Janata Dal (United) on Monday said that an assessment must first be made of the Centre's demonetisation move before initiating the next step. "Let us see the efficacy and the effectiveness of this step. To what extent, it actually roots out black money. Whether it goes to the root causes to generate black money, how will it be implemented, whether the actual black marketeers will escape and the honest poor citizen will suffer? Let us make an assessment of this before we talk about fresh scheme but it is true that this step needs to be followed by other steps if you wish to eliminate black money," JD (U) leader Pawan Verma told ANI. The JD (U) leader also took a jibe at the Prime Minister over his assertion that he left his home and family for the nation. As part of his commitment to eradicate corruption and black money, Prime Minister Modi yesterday announced that more anti-graft measures were on the anvil including action against "benaami property". Prime Minister Modi said that his government intended to end conversion of black money into gold. Ridiculing Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for queuing up at an ATM kiosk, he said that he would expose the shady financial pasts of those opposing the demonetisation move. He also said he would reveal the names of Members of Parliament, who had asked him not to levy excise duty on jewellers. In a voice choked with emotion, Prime Minister Modi said that he had made enemies who "will not let me live". "But I ask the people of the country to help in this fight against black money for the next 50 days," he said in Panaji. (ANI)
