Hafiz Saeed under house arrest: Defence Experts dub it 'golden opportunity' to nail Pak
New Delhi/ Mumbai/Nagpur [India], Jan. 31 (ANI): Defence Experts on Tuesday welcomed the house arrest of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed and said this is a 'golden opportunity' for India to pressurize the international community to declare Pakistan as a terrorist state. Defence Expert Sunil Deshpande told ANI this is a healthy sign for India to take immediate action against the JuD chief. "It is obvious that it is done under Trump administration .America had already declared in 2014 that JuD is a terrorist organisation," he said. "This is an opportunity for India to take immediate action against Hafiz Saeed. We should now pressurize the international community that Pakistan is a terrorist state. This is a golden opportunity for us to take all the action to pressurize the world that Pakistan should stop terrorist activities," he added. Echoing similar sentiments, Defence Expert Major General (Retired) P.K. Sehgal told ANI there has been intense pressure on terrorism world-wide after Trump has taken over. "During the elections, Trump has categorically indicated that should he become the president he will act very sternly and very strongly against ISIS and radical Islam and make sure they are eliminated from this world all together. A number of organizations of Pakistan were also identified which included JuD. Trump's administration before taking over had categorically told Pakistan to act against them and now that they are seeing that Trump is moving in that direction," he said. Major General (Retired) Sehgal said Trump is a person, who cannot be easily fooled. "Pakistan for almost 15 to 20 years played these games with the American administration. Now, it will be difficult for them to escape sanctions," he added. However, former IPS officer Y.P. Singh dubbed the JuD chief's house arrest as a 'show', which Pakistan is trying to put up, adding such jokes shall not command any credibility either in India or in America. Singh told ANI that Pakistan should take some sort of concrete action if they think Saeed is a threat to the world. "This is an absolute legal joke because Hafiz Saeed has been put under a preventive detention because he is a threat to a temporary law and order situation. There have been three to four earlier instances where he has been put in preventive detention for short periods," Singh said. "I think this is just some sort of show, which Pakistan is just trying to put up and that shall not command any credibility either in India or in America," he added. He said if Islamabad is serious about it then he should be treated as a terrorist and arrested. "He has to be interrogated and made an accused in 26/11 case and chargesheeted in the court of law and prosecuted for terror activities so that he could be convicted under the terror law and send to long-term imprisonment which would include a life imprisonment and a death penalty," he added. The top cop further asserted that America will not come under such pretext of Pakistan's frivolous legal pretext of detaining Saeed and declaring his house as a sub-jail for maintaining law and order. Pakistani authorities, facing mounting pressure from the Trump administration, placed Saeed and four others under detention on Monday night. The action was taken under an anti-terrorism act. (ANI)
