Cong holds meet to assess situation as Parrikar proves majority
Panaji (Goa) [India], Mar. 16 (ANI): After losing the crucial floor test in Goa Assembly today, the Congress Party held a meeting here to assess the situation after one of their MLAs chose to abstain from voting. Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar won the crucial trust vote as 22 legislators backed the BJP-led coalition in the 40-member assembly. Addressing a press conference later, Parrikar took a jibe at Congress leader Digvijaya Singh debunking his claim that the Congress had "magic" numbers. "The floor test had to be clear the speaker made us stand and the count was clear. This happens when you come to Goa only to enjoy and not to work," he added. When asked whether the BJP 'bought' MLAs, the former defence minister said, "There are wild allegations being made with coloured glasses. As you saw everyone voluntarily came and voted. Nobody was kept in a hotel or secluded place. It is a government of coalition and decision in this regard will be taken by the coalition." The Congress general secretary later tweeted that finally money power proved to be stronger than people's power. "People of Goa defeated BJP but those who got elected on anti BJP vote sold Goa to BJP," Digvijaya Singh said in a series of tweet. The BJP ended up second behind the Congress in a split mandate in Goa. (ANI)
