New Delhi [India], Dec 5 (ANI): Candor International School conferred prestigious 'iCare Green Pentagon Award' to inspire sustainable pattern of development while eliminating environmental risk factors which contribute majorly to the global toll of more than ten million child deaths annually. 'Green Pentagon Award' is awarded by iCare, a leading organization working in the area of new-age child health care globally. This global award is one of the most prestigious awards for schools delivering the best healthcare facilities with environment friendly campuses. It was received by Sridhar Chintapatla, from Candor International School, Bangalore from Dr. Gaurav Nigam, Founder and CEO of iCare. "At iCare, we want to raise awareness regarding environmentally-related causes responsible for rising morbidity and mortality among children and reduce risk and vulnerability. Let's redefine childhood," said Founder and CEO iCare, Dr. Gaurav Nigam. As per a latest report from UNICEF, almost two billion children in the world who are breathing toxic air live in north India and neighbouring countries, risking serious health effects, including damage to their lungs, brains and other organs. Out of this global total, 300 million kids are exposed to pollution levels more than six times higher that standards set by the World Health Organization, including 220 million in South Asia. Through 'Green Pentagon Award', iCare wants to honor, support, and recognize the outstanding work of those schools which are making efforts to promote environmental sustainability as children are particularly more vulnerable to harmful environmental exposures as compared to adults. Icare recognized Candor International School for being the first Green school in the country spread over 20 acres near Electronic City, Bengaluru. Candor is a school with a difference, designed to meet optimum number of students in only 20 percent of the total estate area. The campus infrastructure and various other equipments have been designed to meet the stringent requirements and standards of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). The school also has a half Olympic size pool which is child friendly and uses no chlorine. Candor also makes every attempt to conserve energy, harvest rainwater and manage waste. While Candor aims at laying the foundation stones of the stunning eco-friendly campus, iCare creates the platform to recognize such entrepreneurs who mark their successful contribution in transforming the future of dynamic talent. iCare is a strong advocate for education and fights against childhood death and illness from causes such as environmental pollution, poverty, malnutrition, so and so forth. According to World Health Organization (WHO), each year around three million children under the age of five die due to environment-related diseases. Apart from that, acute respiratory infections annually kill an estimated 1.6 million children under the age of five. As much as 60 percent of acute respiratory infections worldwide are related to environmental conditions.
