Author Anne Rice dreams of TV adaptation of 'Vampire Chronicles'
Washington D.C. [USA], Nov.28 (ANI): Novelist Anne Rice is working on her next work of art and to every fan's excitement. It is the TV adaptation of her 'The Vampire Chronicles.' In a Facebook post recently, the creator of 'The Vampire Chronicles' said that she has regained theatrical rights to the seminal series of novels that single-handledly redefined the vampire genre in the 1970s and 80s, and is now beginning work on a proposed television series adaptation, reports Deadline. "The theatrical rights to the Vampire Chronicles are once again in my hands, free and clear! I could not be more excited about this! - A television series of the highest quality is now my dream for Lestat, Louis, Armand, Marius and the entire tribe," Rice said. Rice says she'll be developing a script for a pilot alongside her son, novelist and columnist Christopher Rice. The pair will also be creating "a detailed outline" for an ongoing show that would, she says, tell the story laid out over the novel series' 12-installments "faithfully". Universal and Imagine Entertainment had acquired the film rights to the book series, which centers on 18th century French nobleman-turned-vampire, in 2014. But Rice says she realised that her stories are better suited for TV. "Though we had the pleasure of working with many fine people in connection with this plan, it did not work out," she wrote of Universal and Imagine's plans to option the series into several movies. "It is, more than ever, abundantly clear that television is where the vampires belong." The author continued to the fans, "Over the years you all have told me how much you want to see a Game of Thrones style faithful rendering of this material, and how much you want for the series to remain in my control. Well, I have heard you. I have always heard you. What you want is what I want." Rice ended the message by saying she was filled with optimism about the future for "my beloved Brat Prince. What better way to start a tour for the new book!" (ANI)
