Washington DC, [USA] Oct 11 (ANI): American fashion retail company 'Nasty Gal' is facing backlash after one of its advertisements featured an "unhealthily underweight" model.
According to Fox news, Nasty Gal violated UK's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) rule, since it had barred commercials from featuring thin women.
Post the commercial's release ASA received 22 complaints from viewers as they complained it to be an "irresponsible" advertisement.
The 30-second advertisement featured a woman with a skinny physique wearing different types of workout gear that included tank tops, bikini bottoms, a dress, and a skirt.
ASA in a recently released statement said that there are scenes from the ad which drew attention to her slimness, as it especially focuses on her chest where the "rib cage was visible and appeared prominent."
The American company persisted that they abided by the rule, saying that the body mass index of the said model was balanced, as she weighed 60.7 Kg with a height of 5 feet 8 inches.
Nasty Gal added that the model has featured in many of their ads and that she is represented by "one of the world's leading agencies, whose key priority is the health of their models". (ANI)
