Three-day Kwatha festival in Manipur concludes

Imphal (Manipur) [India], Nov 1 (ANI): The three-day Kwatha festival held here from October 27 to 30 concluded in Tengnoupal district.

The festival showcased traditional songs, dances and the martial art of Thang-Ta.

Village chief of Khudengthabi, Pacho Kom, was the chief guest, while the chief of Kwatha village, N. Kamal, was the functional president.

President of Meetei Council, Moreh, M. Thoiba was the guest of honour.

He said the people of Kwatha must disconnect themselves from the state government as they had not got support for the festival or aid for the village.

Dr. Sarangthem Ibomcha, Superintendent of Police, said it is very unfortunate to see poor attendance at the festival.

Pacho Kom said, "We have a mixed community and Kwatha village lacks development. Unity among the leaders of Kwatha village is required to develop this village."

Kwatha village is located along the Indo-Myanmar border and its history can be traced back in 1496.

The village lacks food, medical care, education and road connectivity.

The villagers depend on agriculture for livelihood.

The flowering of bamboo is posing one of the biggest threats to the village.

The village will not be able to produce Soibum for the next seven to ten years because of this. (ANI)
