Sahitya Kala Parishad organises Purana Qila Dance Festival

New Delhi [India], Sep 22 (ANI): Sahitya Kala Parishad, Government of Delhi is organising Purana Qila Dance Festival to celebrate the choreographies of Indian Dance to entice the audience with the awestruck performances at Old Fort Complex, New Delhi from September 26-30.

Presenting a visual treat to the patrons of Indian classical dance forms, Sahitya Kala Parishad is organizing a five-day dance festival at Purana Qila.

The festival will be featuring the mesmerising glimpses of Indian traditional dance and various choreographies by veteran artists. The amalgamation of dance choreographies from different parts of the country showcasing a storyline that will make your eyes fixed over them.

A five day festival will showcase manuscripts adapted in different dance forms of India to present a cultural visual treat for the art lovers.

About the artists -

Day 1 - September 26 (Tuesday)

Santosh Nair

Santosh Nair and Sadhya Dance group will present Indian contemporary dance form presenting National Epic-Mahabharata, its treatment is on a contemporary line, where aspects like music and costumes have been experimented and highlighted upon to create a different feel and look. The production is interspersed in various sections with own interpretation of both the characters and their conflicts during the play.

The second production will be Kathakali showing performances of the artists with its rigorous, dramatic and vibrant outlook. Mayurbhanj Chhau is very much choreographed with its high energy, control and martial arts spirit and Contemporary dance with its creativity and experimentation.

Day 2 - September 27 (Wednesday)

Saroja Vaidyanathan

Saroja Vaidyanathan and Ganesa Natyalaya will perform Namami Gange, a bharatnatyam recital telling the story of Ganga with a contemporary relevance. Exploring the contemporary relevance of the river in present times, the presentation depicts how man has polluted the river. When the whole of nature pleads to the Siva again, the Government makes huge efforts to clean up the river. This attracts tourism where the world now is extremely interested in knowing the story of this legendary river.

Day 3 - September 28 (Thursday)

Kiran Segal

Tradition to Contemporary, an Odissi dance form by Kiran Segal and Nitrya Sangeet Viddyalaya is a foremost exponent of Odissi Dance in India. She is one of the most innovative and outstanding Guru/ dancer/ choreographers of Odissi Dance today and it is due to this contribution of hers that Odissi has been given a totally different dimension.

Day 4 - September 29 (Friday)

Kumudini Lakhia

Dance group Kadamb will perform Vivarta. The production, based on the poem 'Ni-ra-tata-dhang,' a composition by Maharaj Bindadin, the Adiguru of Kathak dance, also narrates the actual Bols of the Kathak vocabulary and highlights the movement patterns of the classical technique of Kathak dance.

Vivarta has been choreographed by the legendary Kathak exponent Kumudini Lakhia and Pt. Madhup Mudgal has composed music for it.

Day 5 - September 30 (Saturday)

Vanashree Rao

Starting the performance, Vanashree Rao will showcase the dance production entitled Tripurasura Samhara. Then the second production will show Markendya where Lord Shiva comes to save his life, and appears from the shivlinga. Moving further, there will be Abhimanyu Badh Drona Parva from Mahabharata. The dance opens with Drona's lament for killing Abhimanyu in an unfair war.

Lastly, there will the performance depicting the story of Mahisasura Mardini, inspired by Pandit Jasraj's rendering of the song the dancers show the killing of Mahisasura by goddess Durga.

A befitting finale on bijaya dasami day the creation of shakti by the energy of all the gods and eventual destruction of the demon is visualized in three dance styles of Bharatanatyam, chhau and Kuchipudi in a powerful choreography. (ANI)
