7th North East Choral Competition held in New Delhi

New Delhi [India], Nov 6 (ANI): Tangkhul Christian Charitable Trust (TCCT), a non-profit body for less-privileged masses, recently organised the 7th North East India Choral Competition under the theme 'Togetherness' at Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi.
Minister of Agriculture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry of Manipur, V Hangkhanlian graced the event along with Aam Aadmi Party Member of Legislative Assembly, Colonel Devendra Sherawat. The event began with an invocation prayer by Pastor of the Delhi Community Church, Ringphangam Vashi.
"I am here to attend the 7th Choral Competitions and I feel very privileged. It encourages the youngsters and brings unity among people for peaceful development as a whole and particularly, Manipur. And I hope this will continue," Hangkhanlian said in his speech, adding that the North-East is blessed with abundant natural resources, which is reflected in the versatile musical talents.
Colonel Devendra Sherawat also encouraged the musicians.
The main speaker at the event was Dr Ken Heson, the Founder and Chairman of the Bangalore Conservatory. He too encouraged the participants and said that beatitude is an important factor.
Varengam Konghay, the event organiser said, "The event is organised annually with the objective to unite all the North East regions and fellowships to come together as one as the theme suggest Togetherness."
The event saw a huge gathering of people from the region as well as other parts of the country. Seven churches and fellowships, based in Delhi, participated in a competition and gave their best performances.
The event also saw live performances from well-known artists including Maker Kashung and friends, Jaijai Singsit, Meyinungsang Longkumer, The Four and Socipem Kasahk, and Reisang Shimray.
"I was invited to participate here. I got to know about this trust through YouTube. As this is one event that brings all regions of Northeast together, it is very good and this is my first visit to the capital", said Jaijai Singsit, a singer from Manipur.
The competition was adjudged by Dr Kenneth Henson, Nadezda Balyan and Sharmila Livingston on six aspects, which were tone, the accuracy of the pitch, diction, musical effect, balance and the stage presence.
The Poumai Baptist Church was declared the winner of the choral competition. While the first runner-up was Tangkhul Church Delhi and second runner-up was the Independent Church of India.
"This is the 7th edition and we got this trophy and we are really happy, we are grateful to God for this. And we also thank the organiser for giving us this opportunity to experience togetherness," said Reverend R Ziisho Duomai, of the Poumai Baptist Church from Delhi.
The first, second and third position holders of the competition were awarded Rs 3 lakh, Rs 2 lakh, and Rs 1 lakh respectively, while the participants were awarded consolation prize Rs 10,000.
The northeast has been the bedrock of music, especially western music. Youngsters of the region are profoundly inclined towards music and their passion for the art has made them create wonders in the world of music.
These kind of events help to identify the talents and skills of people as well as help the community and society to understand the importance of oneness and togetherness in life.
Formed in 2012, the trust has been successfully organising annual North East India Choral Competition where choirs of different Christian fellowships or churches located in Delhi and NCR are invited to participate in the competition.
The program ended with closing prayer by Reverend Ramkhaning Tungshang, Pastor of Dwarka Community Church. (ANI)
