Workshop of mediapersons on awareness of disabilities held in Agartala

Agartala, Sept. 14 (ANI): The National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped under Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities with support of Abhoy Mission recently organized a one-day orientation and training programme on disabilities for the mediapersons in Agartala.

Agartala, Sept. 14 (ANI): The National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped under Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities with support of Abhoy Mission recently organized a one-day orientation and training programme on disabilities for the mediapersons in Agartala. 34 mediapersons from different electronic and print media including All India Radio, Agartala, Department of Information and Cultural Affairs and Doordarshan Kendra, Agartala participated in the programme. Dr Binapani Mahapatra, HOD, department of Rehabilitation Psychology, NIMH, Secunderabad; Dr Mosumi Bhaumik from NIMH, regional centre Mumbai; R C Nitnaware from Regional Centre, NIMH, Kolkata; Susmita De, State Coordinator, SNAC, Tripura under National Trust and President of Abhoy Mission, Shyamal Deb, were among the notable persons who attended the meeting. Dr Mahapatra made discussion on features and types of disabilities. She also discussed about myths and misconceptions about disabilities. A brief description on Niramay Health Insurance, Legal Guardianship and objective of National Trust with emphasis on development of attitude of parents of disable children particularly in the field of education along with the various provisions, schemes, benefits and description of teaching learning materials were discussed.
