Washington D.C. [USA], Dec 20 (ANI): Hollywood actor Will Smith is all set to hit the theatres as 'Genie' in the upcoming live-action adaptation of 'Aladdin.' In a recent interview, he opened up about the task he has taken up of recreating the iconic character which was originally voiced by Robin Williams.
"Whenever you're doing things that are iconic, it's always terrifying. The question is always: Where was there meat left on the bone? Robin didn't leave a lot of meat on the bone with the character," Entertainment Weekly quoted Smith as saying.
While the late actor, who passed away in 2014, surely did a brilliant job of crafting Genie into a character everybody loves, Smith tried to give it his own little twist. In the process, he made sure to keep William alive in the character.
"I started to feel confident that I could deliver something that was a homage to Robin Williams but was musically different. Just the flavour of the character would be different enough and unique enough that it would be in a different lane, versus trying to compete," he said.
As a treat to the fans, who are eagerly waiting for the film, the makers of 'Aladdin' released the teaser of the movie.
The movie stars Will Smith as the magical Genie, Naomi Scott as princess Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Numan Acar as Hakim and Navid Negahban as The Sultan
Directed by Guy Ritchie, and co-written by John August and Ritchie, the film will hit the theatres on May 24, 2019. (ANI)
