'Roma' set to release in China in May

Washington D.C. [USA], Apr 30 (ANI): Alfonso Cuaron’s Oscar-winning film ‘Roma’ is set to release in China on May 10 via distributors, Estars.
The film will be released on 3900 screens assembled by the Nationwide Alliance of Arthouse Cinemas, reported Variety.
The film is controversial as the production is backed by streaming platform Netflix which is also releasing the film in China. The country is one of those nations where the streaming giant is not operational.
The film has just got a very limited release in more than 40 nations. Even in the US and Mexico, the film started with a mere 350 screens on November 21, 2018.
Roma’s release in China coincides with the release of Warner Bro’s ‘Detective Pikachu’ and the already released ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
In September last year, ‘Roma’ was premiered at the Venice and Toronto festivals. Coming to Academy awards, the film managed to get 10 nominations and bagged three Oscars for Best Director, Best Foreign Language Film and Best Cinematography.
After two Golden Globes, the film also won four BAFTA awards.
‘Roma’ is set in the 1970s in Mexico city which follows a young domestic worker in a middle-class neighbourhood.
‘Roma’ earned Alfonso; his second-ever Oscar in direction after winning one for ‘Gravity’ in 2014.
