Washington DC, [USA] Nov 5 (ANI): Rebel Wilson's response to the backlash surrounding her 'first-ever plus sized romantic comedy lead' comment, has garnered more criticism.
Actor Rebel Wilson, earlier this month, faced flak on social media after claiming to be the first ever plus-sized female star of a romantic comedy film, on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. "I'm proud to be the first-ever plus-sized girl to be the star of a romantic comedy," she told host Ellen DeGeneres.
Shortly after the trailer of the show was premiered, Wilson's comment went viral, following which the 'pitch perfect' actor faced a lot of backlash. To counter her claims, the Twitterverse started pointing out that she was not the first plus-sized actor to get her very own romantic comedy, by naming movies like movies like Beauty Shop, Just Wright and Last Holliday with Queen Latifah, and Phat Girlz with Mo'Nique.
In an attempt to defend her comment, Wilson took to her tweeter account and wrote, "Hey girl! Yeah I, of course, know of these movies but it was questionable as to whether: 1. Technically those actresses were plus size when filming those movies or 2. Technically those films are categorized/billed as a studio rom-com with a sole lead. So there's a slightly grey area"

However, this explanation did not do down well with Mo'Nique, a plus-sized American comedian-actor who has been a part of the rom-com world. "Hey, my sweet sister. Let's please not allow this business to erase our talent with giving grey areas and technicalities. Take a moment and know the history. Don't be a part of erasing it. I wish you the best," she tweeted.

While Wilson chose to not answer many other tweets, she replied to Mo'Nique's and said that she did not mean to leave her and Queen Latifah out of the conversation.
"Hi Monique, it was never my intention to erase anyone else's achievements and I adore you and Queen Latifah so so much x I support all plus size ladies and everything positive we are doing together," she wrote in her tweet.

Directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson, the film will hit the big screens on Valentine's Day in 2019. (ANI)
