'Get Out' in Golden Globes comedy category, confirms Jordan Peele

New Delhi [India], November 16 (ANI): Jordan Peele has finally responded to his debut movie 'Get Out' of competing in the comedy category for the 2018 Golden Globes.

The critically lauded film was labelled as a horror film when it was released but Hollywood Foreign Press Association met yesterday to work out the categories for the Golden Globes and it seems Get Out has officially been placed in the Comedy category, reports Contactmusic.

The news left many onlookers rather bewildered, none more so than the director himself, Jordan Peele.

The 38 years old actor-turned-director tweeted, "Get Out is a documentary."

Many people took to Twitter to bemoan the category choice and argued it was an example of white privilege.

One user wrote, "You understand the only way whiteness can process Get Out is to make light of it and pretend it was in jest."

"Get Out competing in the Golden Globes as a 'Comedy' is a slap in the face to black people everywhere and a clear indicator that those in charge of these awarding institutions are completely clueless when it comes to the matter of racism," wrote another user.

During the controversy, many others have been quick to point out that the flick being labelled as a comedy isn't an inherently bad thing either.

A user wrote, "Get Out actually was a comedy but may be it was hard for some of y'all to laugh for a reason."

Ultimately, Peele said fans can "call it what you want, but the movie is an expression of my truth, my experience, the experiences of a lot of black people and minorities". (ANI)
