Trump used to live tweet 'Oscars,' but won't watch it this year!

New Delhi (India), Feb. 26 (ANI): Since the time Donald Trump has taken over as the U.S. President, Hollywood has been quite vocal about displeasure over his policies and decisions. Going by the trend, set at the Golden Globes, then at the Grammys, BAFTAs and BRITS, expecting the 89th Anuual Academy Awards to go political, is inevitable. Well, on a related note, if we turns the pages of history, Trump has been one such Oscar buffs, who not only used to watch, but also live tweet about it. In 2015, Donald Trump found the show terrible and took to Instagram to show his displeasure about it. Just four months after this post, he announced his candidacy for the President. However, he will not watch it this year! According to White House Press Secretary, "The president will be busy in hosting the governor's ball that night." So what has changed over the passage of time? The whole industry has gone berserk, showing displeasure on everything controversial that he speaks. At the 2017 Golden Globes, Meryl Streep while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award, spent all her stage time slamming Trump, without taking his name. "There was one performance this year that stunned me. It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter. Someone he outranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it. I still can't get it out of my head because it wasn't in a movie. It was real life," she said. Trump was quick to reply and called her "one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood." The Oscar-front runner for 'Best actress' Emma Stone, during her acceptance speech for 'best actress in a leading role' for 'La La Land' at this year's BAFTAs said that the award ceremony was a distraction that everyone wanted from such 'divisive' times. Taking a jibe at POTUS indirectly, she shared that everyone in this room knows that right now this country and the U.S. and the world seems to be going through a bit of a rough time. But the biggest reaction came when the Oscar nominated Iranian director Farhadi denied attending the event, in solidarity to those who had been affected by Trump's travel ban decision. Farhadi, who's movie 'The Salesman' has been nominated in 'Best Foreign-Language film' category, will be screening his movie in London, the same night as the Oscars. Opposing the President's decision, he said, "The gathering of the audience around 'The Salesman' in this famous London square is symbolic of unity against the division and separation of people." The Academy Awards, this year, will be a show to watch out for- not just for the artists who will receive the golden statuette, but also for the political statements that are expected to be made at Hollywood's biggest night.(ANI)
