#SAG2017: Viola Davis gives awe-inspiring acceptance speech
Washington D.C. [USA], Jan. 30 (ANI): 'Fences' star Viola Davis took home the award for best supporting actress at Screen Actors Guild Award and once again delivered a speech that left viewers inspired. Taking the stage to accept the award for her role as Rose Maxson in the film adapted from August Wilson's play, Davis spoke to the audience about Wilson and his ability to bring to life the story of black people, adding, "The fact that we breathed and live a life ... just that, means that we have a story and it deserves to be told." "August Wilson. They say that maybe all one can hope for is the right regrets. And what August did was honor the honest man. Who happened to be a man of color," she said, as reported by People Magazine. "We deserve to be in the canon, in the center of any narrative that's written out there. And that's what August did. He elevated my father, my mother, uncles, who had eight and fifth grade educations. He just encapsulated them in history. So thank you August." The actress is also nominated for an Academy Award, making history as the first black woman to ever be nominated for three Oscars. (ANI)
