Robert DeNiro targets Donald Trump while accepting Career Honour
Los Angeles [USA], May 9 (ANI): It seems like the 'goodfella' is really angry at POTUS. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Robert DeNiro made the point the "mean-spirited" Trump administration should stop targeting arts programs. The Academy award-winner also mentioned that the newly elected US President wants to shut down the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities and Corporation for Public Broadcasting - "for their own divisive political purposes." While coming up the stage, the 73-year-old actor said, "I call it what it is: bullshit." The actor further noted that the namesake of his award, Charlie Chaplin, was "an immigrant who probably wouldn't pass today's 'extreme vetting,' I hope we're not keeping out the next Chaplin." Martin Scorsese, who has directed De Niro in eight films, presented him with the award as a glittery crowd including Michael Mann, Christopher Walken, John McEnroe, John Turturro, Marisa Tomei, Michael Barker, Avi Lerner, Katie Couric and Harvey Weinstein looked on. On the work front, Robert DeNiro will be next seen in Barry Levinson's 'The Wizard of Lies,' alongside Michelle Pfeiffer and Hank Azaria. (ANI)
