Elizabeth Banks apologises for comments about Steven Spielberg
New Delhi [India], June 17 (ANI): Few days back, actress Elizabeth Banks had blasted filmmaker Steven Spielberg for not making a movie with female in the lead role at Women in Film's Crystal + Lucy Awards. But, now it seems like Banks has got to know that she messed up and is really sorry for her comments. The 43-year-old-actress-turned-director took to Twitter and shared a note, apologising for the comments she made earlier. She wrote, "I messed up. When referring to Steven Spielberg at the Women in Film Awards, I framed my comments inaccurately. want to be clear from the start that I take full responsibility for what I said and I'm sorry."

pic.twitter.com/Sea684ZUoI
— Elizabeth Banks (@ElizabethBanks) June 15, 2017
Adding, "When I made the comments, I was thinking of recent films Steven directed, it was not my intention to dismiss the import of the iconic #TheColorPurple." She acknowledged in her tweet that Shari Belafonte, another Crystal + Lucy Awards attendee, attempted to correct her. "I made things worse by giving the impression that I was dismissing Shari Belafonte when she attempted to correct me. I spoke with Shari backstage and she was kind enough to forgive me," Banks posted in the apology. At the time that Banks was making her remarks, actress Shari Belafonte brought up Spielberg's 1985 movie 'The Color Purple', pointing out that the distinctly female-focused movie starred Whoopi Goldberg. The 'Power Rangers' star concluded the statement by saying, "Those who have the privilege and honor of directing and producing films should be held to account for our mistakes, whether it's about diversity or inaccurate statements. I'm very sorry." According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ace filmmaker has not commented to the issue till now as his representative said the filmmaker could not be reached as he is currently shooting his latest project, 'The Papers'.
