[US], Jan. 26 (ANI): American actress Mary Tyler Moore known for her witty and graceful performances in television sitcoms in the 1960s and 70s, died at the age of 80 after being hospitalised. The Brooklyn-born actress is known for her role in TV sitcoms 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' and 'The Dick Van Dyke Show'. The actress battled diabetes and underwent brain surgery in 2011 and became famous after starring on the "The Dick Van Dyke Show" from 1961 to 1966. The sitcom "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," had seven seasons and was the first show to feature a never-married, working woman as its central character from 1970 to 1977. She earned an Oscar nomination for best actress after crushing it in the 1980 flick 'Ordinary People.' The seven-time Emmy winner began her career in modelling in a commercial for "Happy Hotpoint" as a tiny elf that danced on appliances. Mary married thrice, forming a power couple status when she married TV exec Grant Tinker in 1962. She has only one son, Richard, from her first marriage to Richard Meeker, who died in an accidental gunshot in 1980. (ANI)
