Notice sent to S. P. Balasubrahmanyam for performing Ilayaraja's composition

New Delhi [India], Mar. 20 (ANI): Playback singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, who has been sent a legal notice by music maestro Ilayaraja for singing his compositions without his permission at an ongoing music tour, has termed the incident as 'unfortunate' and requested 'all friends, music lovers and especially all media persons, not to make I.Raja-SPB issue sensational.' "Couple of days back, an Attorney representing Iliaya Raja, sent legal notices to me, Chithra, Charan, organisers of the concerts in different cities and the managements of all the venues, which says that we are not supposed to perform compositions of Iliayaraja without his permission, if so, it is breaking the copyright law and have to pay huge financial penalties and face legal action. Let me say, I am ignorant of these legalities," Balasubrahmanyam wrote on Facebook. S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, who has rendered many hits composed by Ilayaraja over the past some decades, said now he cannot perform on Ilayaraja's compositions following the legal notice. "As I said earlier, I am ignorant of the law. If it is a law, so be it and I obey it. In these circumstances, our troupe cannot perform Isaijnani's compositions from today. But the show should happen. By God's grace I have sung lots of other composer's songs too which we will present. Hope you all will bless our concerts as usual. I am always grateful for your love and affection," he added. (ANI)
