Demi Lovato lands in legal trouble over copyright infringement

Washington D.C., Aug. 23 (ANI): Looks like Demi Lovato has landed in a new legal soup as the singer was recently slapped with a lawsuit filed by indie band Sleigh Bells for copyright infringement. As per E! Online, the group claims that Lovato's 2015 hit 'Stars' sounds too similar to their track from 2010 released 'Infinity Guitars.' According to the court documents, Sleigh Bells claims that both songs are "virtually identical content" that "transcend the realm of coincidence." The lawsuit says, "a comparison of the two songs reveals that, at the very least, the combination of the hand claps and bass drum, structured as 3 quarter beats and a rest, with the bass drum providing a counter-rhythm to the hand claps, is at least substantially similar in both works. This infringing material repeats throughout the Defendants' song." The Disney darling is not the only one mentioned in the lawsuit as UMG Recordings and Carl Falk and Rami Yacoub have also been listed. On a related note, shortly after Lovato's song was released late last year, the band tweeted pointing out to Lovato, "Flattered you guys sampled 'Infinity Guitars' and 'Riot Rhythm' for 'Stars' but we were not contacted.
