Threatening `Padmavati` makers 'not justified,' says IMPPA

New Dehli [India], Nov 18 (ANI): Condemning the acts of Rajput Karni Sena, producers-association">Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) on Saturday stated that threatening the producers of upcoming epic drama film 'Padmavari,' is "not justified."

Speaking to ANI, T.P. Aggarwal, the president of IMPPA said, "Whatever the Rajput Karni Sena is doing by threatening the producers of the film in the media is not justified. They are showing the sword in media and our government is not taking any action, this is something surprising."

"If general public would have done the same then that very person would have been arrested immediately. Why the government and State government is silent, I don't know. No action has been taken against the people, who had broken the theatres. They should treat everybody likely," he added.

Earlier during the day, Lokendra Singh Kalvi, Rajput Karni Sena President told ANI, "We won't let 'Padmavati' release. We have given a call for Bharat Bandh on December 1."

Kalvi also said they are going to hold various programmes in different cities.

"Being the 37th descendent of Rani Padmavati, it would be unfortunate for us to see her as the lover of Alaudin Khilji. When, in January, Bhansali said he would show us the film before release, why is he not doing that? Now, we don't want that as the whole nation is waiting for the release to be stalled," he added.

The movie by Sanjay Leela Bhansali is based on the legend of Rani Padmini, a Hindu Rajput queen, mentioned in Padmavat, an Avadhi language epic poem written by Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540.

The period drama, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, has been facing protests from various groups, including Shri Rajput Karni Sena.

The makers have already announced the film's release date as December 1. (ANI)
