Centre increases power allocation of J&K to meet its winter demand

New Delhi [India], Nov. 16 (ANI): The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has decided to allocate an additional 792 megawatts (MW) of power for the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

This is done in view of the anticipated increase in the power requirement in Jammu and Kashmir with the onset of winter.

"If the state requires more power, the Government of India will consider allocating additional power to the State," the Power Ministry stated in an official statement.

The power requirement of the state is met from the respective allocated share from central generating stations, their own power plants and power purchased from market.

The peak demand of Jammu and Kashmir during the current year (April to October, 2017) was 2,768 MW and the demand met was 2214 MW, thus, leaving shortfall of around 554 MW (i.e 20%).

At present, around 70% of the energy requirement is being met from central generating stations in the state.

The allocation of power to Jammu and Kashmir from central generating stations is 2,397 MW. (ANI)
