New Delhi [India], August 24 (ANI): Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has commissioned a 190.5 megawatt (MW) solar firm and dispatchable renewable energy project in Rajasthan, which includes a 115 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system, the company said on Monday.
The project, located at Kalasar in Bikaner, Rajasthan, has been developed under SJVN's Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) Tranche-1 and forms part of a larger 460 MW contracted FDRE project, according to a press release filed by Tata Power with the stock exchanges.
The 190.5 MW project will supply electricity to Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC), Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) and Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL), the company said.
Unlike conventional solar projects, firm and dispatchable renewable energy projects combine renewable generation with energy storage and other technologies, helping provide electricity even when renewable generation fluctuates.
"The project marks another significant milestone in India's clean energy journey by integrating large-scale solar generation with advanced energy storage and grid support technologies to deliver reliable, dispatchable renewable power," Tata Power said in the release.
The project incorporates a 115 MWh advanced Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) aimed at strengthening grid reliability. Tata Power said it has also deployed technologies including a Harmonic Filter Bank and Static Var Generator systems at the project.
The company said the project was completed despite challenges including compressed timelines and global supply-chain disruptions that affected the availability of transmission line materials, module mounting structures and other equipment.
As part of the execution, the project's switchyard was completed within three months, while the Harmonic Filter Bank was completed within one month, according to the release.
Following the commissioning, TPREL's total renewable utility capacity has reached 12.4 gigawatts (GW). Of this, around 6.9 GW is operational, comprising 5.6 GW of solar capacity and 1.3 GW of wind capacity.
Another nearly 5.5 GW of renewable capacity is currently under various stages of implementation and is expected to be commissioned in phases over the next 24 months, the company said.
Tata Power's overall operational and under-construction power generation capacity has crossed 26 GW, including about 17.7 GW of clean and green energy capacity and around 8.8 GW of thermal generation capacity. (ANI)
