Pahal Expands Digital Education Drive, Distributes 100 Tablets to Basti Students

New Delhi [India], July 10: As part of its expanding digital education mission, non-governmental organisation Pahal distributed 100 tablets free of cost to meritorious students in Basti on July 6, 2026, reinforcing its long-term commitment to bridging the digital divide and improving access to technology-enabled education.
The initiative aims to equip deserving students with the digital resources needed to participate more effectively in online learning, skill development, and academic advancement. Addressing the gathering, Pahal Founder Manish Mishra said the organisation envisions giving Basti a stronger identity in the fields of education and technology by ensuring that talented students receive the support needed to build brighter futures.
The Basti programme builds on Pahal's broader strategy of combining education, digital inclusion, livelihood generation and community development across multiple states. Since its inception, the organisation has expanded its work across 11 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi, with initiatives spanning education, healthcare, women's empowerment and environmental sustainability.
Digital education has remained one of the organisation's key focus areas. Recognising the widening technology gap among students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds, Pahal launched its first major tablet distribution initiative in September 2020, providing digital devices to 71 meritorious students to help them continue their education during a period when online learning had become increasingly important.
The long-term impact of that initiative recently gained widespread attention after one of the beneficiaries secured admission to an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the student credited the tablet with giving him access to learning resources that significantly strengthened his academic preparation.
Beyond device distribution, Pahal has also invested in digital learning infrastructure. In Basti, Uttar Pradesh, the organisation has established a free digital library with the capacity to accommodate 250 students, providing access to computers and technology-enabled education for children from the region.
The organisation's development model extends beyond education. In Basti, Pahal has supported 100 self-help groups with financial assistance of ₹1 lakh each to promote the production of "Ram Ji Ka Peda," creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for women. It has also identified more than 2,000 women for sewing machine distribution under its "Ram Ji Ka Jhola" initiative, aimed at encouraging eco-friendly alternatives while generating rural employment.
Pahal is also working towards creating direct employment opportunities for over 100 young people and has announced plans to make Basti a fully digital district by 2027, with every village equipped with a computer system containing essential local data. As part of its youth engagement initiatives, the organisation also plans to distribute one cricket kit to each of Basti's 3,500 villages, with the objective of nurturing sporting talent at the grassroots level.
With the latest Basti initiative, Pahal continues to strengthen its focus on digital inclusion by expanding access to technology for deserving students. The organisation believes that providing digital tools at the right stage of a student's educational journey can create long-term opportunities for learning, skill development and future career growth while narrowing the technology gap in underserved communities.
