New Delhi [India], Feb. 5 (ANI): Aligned with the Central Government's objective to promote cashless transactions, Gujarat's Minister of Transport Vallabhbhai Kakadiya launched the new, cashless Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), a state owned corporation for passenger transport providing bus services in Gujarat and neighbouring states, on Saturday. GSRTC has partnered with Indian mobile wallet major, MobiKwik to introduce digital ticket payment across its fleet of 8000 passenger buses. The tie-up will enable commuters to book tickets by scanning a QR code within seconds without standing in queues. "India is changing and digital is the new way to pay. GSRTC is among the first few transport departments in India to adapt to this. MobiKwik-powered payments will help commuters across Gujarat in paying securely in one step through their mobile phones and matching steps with the new age India," said Vallabhbhai Kakadiya, Gujarat's Minister of Transport. Commuters can make secure payments across GSRTC buses by scanning the QR code in their MobiKwik application. MobiKwik is also training the entire staff of GSRTC to ensure a convenient digital payment experience. "GSRTC is committed to upgrade our commuters' experience with the best possible service and going digital helps us in keeping pace with the imminent digital economy", added Vijay Nehra, Managing Director, GSRTC. The launch event took place at Geeta Mandir bus stand and was attended by officials from the tourism department of Gujarat and GSRTC. The first cashless transaction at GSRTC was made by Vallabhbhai Kakadiya, using the MobiKwik application. "Cashless payments are not only the new way to pay in India but are also much more seamless and secure than cash payments. We are proud to support GSRTC in their endeavour to become cashless," said Upasana Taku, Cofounder of MobiKwik. MobiKwik has launched a mobile wallet version that can be used in eight regional languages, including Gujarati. This Lite version works on any kind of Smartphone, using minimum data connectivity.(ANI)
