Maruti Suzuki's centre of excellence in Gujarat to impart industry-relevant skills

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], May 14 (ANI): Maruti Suzuki India said on Tuesday it has set up a modern centre of excellence at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Becharaji town of Mehsana district in Gujarat.

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], May 14 (ANI): Maruti Suzuki India said on Tuesday it has set up a modern centre of excellence at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Becharaji town of Mehsana district in Gujarat.
Set up in collaboration with the state government, the centre will train and improve the level of technical education of ITI students and contribute to the Skill India initiative.
Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Maruti Suzuki India, said, "Having the right skills is the key to employability. The automobile industry is one of the largest employment generating sectors. It is important students across the ITIs are imparted with the right skills and attitude to earn and sustain employment in the sector."
The centre of excellence will help students from various trades to enhance their skill sets. "I urge the students to make the most of this facility for a stronger industry connect and a successful career," said Ayukawa in a statement.
The Mehsana region has seen intense activity in the automobile sector during recent years, especially after setting up of Suzuki Motor Gujarat plant at nearby Hansalpur. Several automobile component makers have set up their manufacturing facilities, increasing employment opportunities for youth with relevant skills.
Spread over 11,800 square feet, the centre of excellence at ITI Becharaji has a capacity to train 150 trainees per week. The company has built infrastructure and the workshop with the latest equipment and training tools.
In 2017-18, Maruti Suzuki India set up Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) in Mehsana as a model ITI. The institute is an outcome of a joint initiative between the governments of India and Japan to create a pool of 30,000 skilled manpower for the manufacturing industry in India.
