Indigenisation crucial to transform Indian Navy: Vice Admiral Deshpande
New Delhi [India], Apr 18 (ANI): Vice Admiral DM Deshpande AVSM, VSM, Controller of Warship Production and Acquisition (CWP&A), Indian Navy on Tuesday said the Indian Navy is working relentlessly towards transforming its ship building, aviation and underwater capabilities by building new generation vessels by leveraging the technology and research as force multipliers. Speaking at a curtain raiser on FICCI's international seminar on 'Building India's Future Navy: Technology Imperatives', to be held on May 31 and June 1, 2017 in New Delhi, Vice Admiral Deshpande revealed that the Navy had identified areas for cooperation while actively seeking the involvement and participation of industry, academia and research laboratories "The Indian Navy has been at the vanguard in promoting indigenous design and construction of warships and equipment for many years. The process of achieving self-reliance in the Navy is extremely complex and it requires active participation from many stakeholders across industries, both private and public, academia and R&D establishments," he said. Vice Admiral Deshpande added that an increasingly complex and volatile maritime security landscape requires development of technologies that can fulfil the requirements of the nation indigenously. In this regard, he said the Navy has taken a quantum jump with respect to the technologies and the platform being inducted in its fleet over the years. "The plans of the Navy align well with the Government of India's 'Make in India' programme, which is enabling it to take bold decisions and collaborative approaches," said Vice Admiral Deshpande.
