FSSAI to set new guidelines of Food and Supplement for Direct Selling Industry

New Delhi [India], Oct 25 (ANI): Celebrating a successful journey of two decades the Indian Direct Selling Association (IDSA) commemorated a gala event where Pawan Kumar Agarwal CEO, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India said that the new standards of food supplements are in the final stage of notification and will be shortly notified post Government approval.

New Delhi [India], Oct 25 (ANI): Celebrating a successful journey of two decades the Indian Direct Selling Association (IDSA) commemorated a gala event where Pawan Kumar Agarwal CEO, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India said that the new standards of food supplements are in the final stage of notification and will be shortly notified post Government approval. "About 60 percent of the Industry players deal in food products. There have been concerns raised by the Industry players, especially in some of the states. FSSAI is trying to find sustainable solutions to some of these problems," said Agarwal. Pawan Kumar congratulated IDSA for completing its successful journey of two decades and appreciated the sincere efforts of IDSA for playing the role of a facilitator between Industry and the government. "It is FSSAI's responsibility to ensure that safe and nutritious food is supplied to 130 crore people of the country and we do require support and cooperation of each member of this Industry," he added. "The Direct Selling Industry has huge potential to reach Rs. 15,000 Crore by 2019-20. We are aiming at providing business opportunities to about 90 lakh people by 2019-20. While women remain the stronghold of the Industry, our focus would also be to provide business opportunities to more men in the country," said Chairman Indian Direct Selling Association, Jitendra Jagota. "We had submitted our recommendations towards the requisite clarifications required on certain clauses in the guidelines. The Department of Consumer Affairs, after taking a note of our recommendations, has brought a note on clarifications on the said clauses. This will not only be more helpful for the consumer but will also strengthen the position of legitimate Direct Selling companies," said Vice Chairman Indian Direct Selling Association, Vivek Katoch.
