New Delhi [India], Apr 19 (ANI): FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) on Wednesday announced Vasvi Bharat Ram as its newly elected President for the oldest women business chamber of Southeast Asia and the women's wing of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and industry (FICCI). At the conclusion of its 33rd Annual Session on April 14th, An entrepreneur herself, Bharat Ram was appointed for the eminent role. Vasvi Bharat Ram earlier was the Joint Vice Chairperson of the Executive Committee of The Shri Ram School and a member of Shri Educare Limited. Both these entities set up and run quality education institutions both in India and abroad. After completing her education in England, Vasvi returned to India and started her own business in wrought iron furniture. In a short period she grew the business into a successful enterprise. Her diligent approach to business and her conscientious initiatives towards the society has been a testimony of her Leadership skills and traits. A multifaceted personality, Bharat Ram been associated with several Industry bodies, trade and women's welfare organizations. Vasvi has also been the Chairperson of Young FICCI Ladies Organization and is currently on the board of the Young Presidents Organization and has played an instrumental role in enhancing the presence and reach of YFLO Delhi. She spends her time equally between her academic interests and in bringing up her children. "Educating and empowering women is the catalyst for rapid socio-economic growth of the country. With India entering into its next phase of growth, it is expected to add 110 million people to its workforce in the next ten years', including youth and women. According to a study conducted by McKinsey Global Institute in 2015, if India can increase women's labor force participation by 10 percentage points (68 million more women) by 2025, India could increase its GDP by 16 percent," said President FICCI Ladies Organisation, Vasvi Bharat Ram. "This, however is an uphill task if we go by the current statistics of participation of Indian women in its workforce. On the World Economic Forum's Gender Gap Index, the ranking of Indian women in economic empowerment is 0.3, where 1.0 means equality," added Ram. "We will also expand and strengthen our initiatives to compliment Government programs like Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and Make in India," added Bharat Ram. She further said that with FICCI, she intends to work towards a more inclusive future and hope that our efforts will lead to effective and informed policy solutions that will empower women, make a positive impact and change many lives. Besides, Aparna (Pinky) Reddy has taken over as the new Senior Vice President and Harjinder Kaur has been elected as the FLO's Vice President for the year 2017-18. (ANI)
