Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Mar 6 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices traded in the green on Wednesday with investors showing renewed interest in midcap stocks.
The Bombay Stock Exchange S&P Sensex closed 194 points higher at 36,636 while the National Stock Exchange Nifty 50 moved up 66 points to 11,053.
The shares of Dewan Housing Finance closed over 11 per cent at Rs 148.50 each on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) after an independent auditor certified that the company did not promote any of the 26 shell companies which were alleged to have siphoned off about Rs 35,000 crore.
Among other prominent gainers were Bharat Petroleum, Bajaj Finance, Vedanta, ICICI Bank, Sun Pharma and Reliance Industries. The biggest losers were HCL Tech, Hero MotoCorp, Nestle India and Axis Bank.
Meanwhile, Asian markets closed mixed as China cut its growth target from 6.5 to 6 per cent this year. On Tuesday, China announced billions of dollar in tax cuts to boost domestic consumption further this year. Beijing also said it will boost infrastructure spending to reduce the risk of an economic slowdown.
Investors also awaited fresh clues on the progress of US-China trade negotiations.(ANI)
