Pune (Maharashtra) [India], August 13: Ecomak has undertaken an ecological restoration initiative under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme by planting more than 550 trees across a barren hill in Ketkavale village, Purandar Taluka, Pune district. The initiative is aimed at supporting long-term environmental restoration through increased green cover and biodiversity.
The plantation drive brought together Ecomak employees and members of the local community to restore an area that had minimal vegetation. More than 60 varieties of trees, including fruit-bearing, medicinal, and native shade species, were planted as part of the initiative. According to the company, Ecomak will also undertake the long-term maintenance of the plantation to support its growth and survival.
The selected site had limited vegetation and green cover, making it suitable for a restoration-focused intervention. Rather than a one-time plantation activity, the initiative has been planned with a long-term approach to enable gradual ecological regeneration of the area over the coming years.
According to the company, as the plantation matures, the site is expected to develop into a greener landscape capable of supporting birds, insects, and other local biodiversity. Increased tree cover may also contribute to reducing soil erosion, improving environmental conditions, and strengthening the ecological value of the surrounding area over time.
The initiative forms part of Ecomak's CSR activities focused on environmental sustainability and community engagement. By involving employees alongside local villagers, the programme sought to encourage community participation while promoting environmental stewardship at the local level.
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Devavrat Kadam, Director - Ecomak, said:
"This hill, which once stood barren with very little vegetation, now has the opportunity to gradually transform into a greener ecosystem. Through this initiative, we have planted more than 550 trees across over 60 different varieties, bringing diversity and new life to a landscape that previously had very limited green cover.
As these trees grow over the coming years, we hope to see this area support birds, insects and other biodiversity while contributing to improved environmental conditions. The value of this initiative will become visible over time as the plantation matures.
At Ecomak, we believe businesses can contribute to society by supporting practical and long-term environmental initiatives. We hope this effort encourages greater participation in ecological restoration and sustainable development."
Ecomak stated that it will continue maintaining the plantation as part of its commitment to ensuring the long-term success of the initiative. The company considers sustained maintenance to be an important aspect of ecological restoration, helping improve the survival and growth of planted trees beyond the initial plantation activity.
