He was a practising Muslim, but he lived and led beyond religion. He strongly believed that India's strength lies in unity, mutual respect, and harmony among all faiths. His closest influences included the Bhagavad Gita, the Quran, and the Bible -- he often quoted from all three. As President, he never allowed religion to divide public life and always upheld the secular spirit of the Indian Constitution.
