Sensex gains 400 pts, Nifty close to 10,600

New Delhi [India] February 8 (ANI): Markets in the Thursday afternoon trade extended gains to 400 points after a flat start.

Sensex gains 400 pts, Nifty close to 10,600

New Delhi [India] February 8 (ANI): Markets in the Thursday afternoon trade extended gains to 400 points after a flat start.

The Sensex was up 435 points to 34,518, however, the Nifty was trading 123.50 points higher, close to 10,600.

Shares such as Cipla, Sun Pharma, BPCL, BHEL, Infosys, Dr Reddys Labs, Axis Bank were up about three to six percent.

On the other hand, ONGC, Tata Steel, Asian Paints were down about one percent.

The morning trade, however, witnessed the 30-share Sensex to surge 94.37 points at 34,177.08 and the 50-share Nifty up 23.30 points at 10,500.

The Indian rupee, however, opened lower by 9 paise at Rs. 64.37 per dollar versus the previous close of Rs. 64.28.

Most Asian indexes too climbed after last session's rally stalled late in the trading day.

Nikkei was up 0.6 percent and South Korea's Kospi was up by 0.5 percent.

However, China's Shanghai Composite was down 1.5 percent. (ANI)
